Raw silver castings
Our pieces are cast in recycled sterling silver unless otherwise noted. We try not to waste any material and reuse scraps in new designs and pieces.
Our silver sheets and wire are sourced from a supplier who only uses recycled and refined metals.
Many of our pieces are MADE TO ORDER. This helps us to use the exact materials needed for a product and keeps us from having too much unsold stock, which could potentially waste material.
Man made sterling opals
Millie June Silver Goods strives to use man made, lab grown stones as well as repurposed, recycled materials when possible. Below are a few examples of the stones and gems primarily used in our work.
STERLING OPAL: a man made synthetic gemstone that has the same chemical composition, internal structure, physical properties and appearance of natural opals.
ROSARITA: a glass-like material which resulted as a by-product of the 1960s and 1970s gold refining processes. Rosarita is the slag left behind and is essentially gold-infused glass.
SURFITE: a repurposed material made from the resin waste left over during surfboard manufacturing.
FORDITE: also called Detroit agate, is a man made jewel created by scraping and polishing the layers of enamel paint left behind during the automotive painting process.
A lot of thought and care goes into packaging your Millie June pieces. We understand that packaging aesthetic plays an important role these days in the era of Instagram and Ecommerce. We want to bring you a visually pleasing parcel while also remaining Eco-friendly and sustainable.
JEWELLERY BOXES: Our jewellery boxed are 100% recycled cardboard. While branded boxes and jewel bags are certainly flashy we don’t think it adds any intrinsic value to our pieces and prefer to use a recycled material instead. Each box is hand stamped using a No Issue sustainably made stamp and soy-based ink.
PACKAGING MATERIALS: Our tissue paper and stickers are printed with soy-based inks on FSC certified, acid free paper. The stickers are 100% compostable and the tissue paper is 100% compostable, recyclable, and made from recycled materials.
